Private Services For Carrie Leo

Caroline "Carrie" Leo died at the age of 96 on November 1. Services and burial were private. Born in Orange, where she lived for most of her life before moving to Livingston in 2006, Miss Leo was a parishioner of St. John's Roman Catholic Church. Angelica De Guzman Dies at Inglemoor

Angelica Agustin De Guzman died at Inglemoor Nursing Home at the age of 90 on Saturday, October 25. A Mass will be offered at St. Rose of Lima Church in Short Hills at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, October 30. Born in Cabiao, Nueva Ecija, Philippines, Mrs. De Guzman lived in Basking Ridge for several years before moving to Livingston six years ago. Prior to her retirement, she was employed during the 1990s as a clerk for the Newark Housing Authority. Before coming to the U.S., she had been a pharmacist in the Philippines for many years. A member of the St. Rose of Lima Church, Mrs. De Guzman was predeceased by her husband, Fortunato, and her daughter, Concepcion. She is survived by her children, Angelita Dunne, Florinda Magsakay, and Romeo and Victor De Guzman; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Bette Blum Dies In Boynton Beach

Bette Blum of Boynton Beach, Florida, formerly of Livingston, died on Thursday, October 23. Funeral services were held Monday, October 27, in the Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel of Livingston. Mrs. Blum was born in Newark in 1937, and grew up in Irvington. Margaret M. (Sparano) Place, 63, has died at her residence in Livingston. The funeral service celebrating her life was offered at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston, on Wednesday, October 22. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Mrs. Place lived in Livingston for the past 36 years. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Stephen; a daughter, Jenny Ellen and her husband Christopher Capizano; two sons, Thomas Stephen and his wife, Ali; and Christopher and his wife, Jennifer; a twin sister, Janet Warnock; a brother, Edward Sparano; and five grandchildren.

Marie Bystrak, 104, Dies in North Carolina

Former Livingston resident Marie Tarasko Bystrak of New Bern, North Carolina, died at the age of 104 on October 18. She is survived by her sons, Gary Bystrak of Emerald Isle, North Carolina, and Stephen “Buddy” Bystrak of Gray, Georgia; her daughters, Marilyn Valentine of Graniteville, South Carolina, Carol Ernst of New Bern, and Christine Batt of Mesa, Arizona; 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. The funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, October 22, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church.

Dolores M. Regan Dies in Montville

Former Livingston resident Dolores M. (Dillon) Regan died on Tuesday, October 7, at her home in Montville. She was 82 years old. Born in Newark, Mrs. Regan was raised in Livingston and lived in Whippany before moving to Montville in 1967. She attended Mount Saint Dominic High School in Caldwell and earned a degree in chemistry from Chestnut Hill College in Pennsylvania. Before raising her family, Mrs. Regan was employed as a chemist with Bell Labs in Murray Hill. She later became a teacher in the Montville School system, where she worked for 25 years. She retired from teaching in 1997. Mrs. Regan was predeceased by her brother, Martin Dillon. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, William F. Regan, Jr.; five children, Peggy Picklesimer and her husband, David; Bill and his wife, Amy; Tom and his wife, Rose Mary; John and his wife, Sue; and Mary Pat Paris and her husband, Craig; and 12 grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Carin Hochman, 71, Dies in North Carolina

Carin (Struminger) Hochman, 71, died on Saturday, October 11, in Linville, North Carolina. Born in New York City, Mrs. Hochman grew up in the Bronx, New York, and lived in Livingston for many years before moving to Florida, Georgia and North Carolina. Mrs. Hochman was an avid volunteer, who worked with children at the Kessler Institute, nursed baby animals back to health, and volunteered at the local hospital. Surviving Mrs. Hochman are her husband of 48 years, Andrew; children, Steven Hochman and Stacy Harrison; son in law, Andy Harrison; sister, Dena Dermer; and three grandchildren. Those who wish to honor Mrs. Hochman's memory may donate to the Caldwell Hospice, 902 Kirkwood Street, NW, Lenoir, North Carolina 28645.
