Services Were Held For Eleanor Pato

Former Livingston resident, Eleanor Pato, died on January 23. Services were held at Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus. Mrs. Pato was born in New York City, and raised in the Bronx. She and her husband, Murray, raised their children in Livingston before moving to Roseland and then Boynton Beach, Florida. Mrs. Pato worked at Burrelle’s News Services in Livingston for 20 years. She is survived by her husband, Murray, her children, Robin Davis of Roseland, Steven Pato and his partner, Greg Plumblee, of Los Angeles, California; and Nancy Goldberg and her husband, Ronald, of Warren; and three grandchildren.

Hazel van den Heuvel

Hazel Viola (Rowe) van den Heuvel passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28, after a brief illness. She was a 1943 graduate of Newark Central High School. In 1944, she married Calvin C. van den Heuvel, just days before he shipped out to serve in World War II. After moving to Livingston in 1946, Hazel and Cal became charter members of the Presbyterian Church of Livingston. Later, after raising her children, she worked at Burrelle’s Press Clipping Bureau and Newsweek Magazine. Hazel and Cal were active in square dancing and enjoyed riding with a Gold Wing motorcycle club. Hazel spent many happy hours crocheting, sewing, reading, collecting music boxes, making family picture albums, and creating ceramics. In recent years, she became a cat lover and an enthusiastic Bingo player. Hazel is survived by her sons, Richard A. (Rick) van den Heuvel and Eric H.

Winifred B. Antonick

Winifred B. Antonick, formerly of Livingston, passed away peacefully on January 7 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Winnie was born in Cedar Grove, New Jersey, on July 14, 1920, to George and Elsa Bonnet. The family moved to Verona, where Winnie was graduated from Verona High School and then Berkeley Secretarial School in East Orange. She loved theater, big and small, and especially being a part of the Verona Players for over 25 years. After graduation, she was secretary to the vice president, and then the president, of Howard Savings Bank in Newark. She married Andrew J. Antonick of Irvington in 1947. After living in Bloomfield, they moved to Livingston in 1953, where she remained for close to 60 years. Except for a one-year move to Verona and a short stint in Toms River in 1992, Winnie was back in Livingston for 20 years after Andy passed away. She then moved to Milwaukee in 2011 to be with her family.

Judith Ann Linnett, 63, Dies at Her Home

Judith Ann Linnett died at home on January 22. A celebration of her life was held on January 26 at Life Source Church in West Orange. Mrs. Linnett was raised in Livingston and lived in Roseland for the past 25 years. Predeceased by her father, Louis Tamasco Sr., Mrs. Linnett is survived by her daughter, Lauren Bocchino (neé Mitola) and her husband, Chris; her brother, Louis Tamasco Jr.; and her mother, Antoinette Tamasco. She is also survived by her former husband, Dennis Mitola, and his three children. Mrs. Linnett worked as a school counselor at Union County Vocational Technical School in Scotch Plains for ten years. Contributions may be made to the Judith A. Funeral Services Held For Mrs. LaFerrera

Elizabeth ‘Betty’ LaFerrera died on Monday, January 15. Born in Belleville, she lived most of her married life in Livingston. The funeral was held on January 22 at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home in Nutley, and the Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Philomena’s Church in Livingston. Mrs. LaFerrera retired from Macy’s in Livingston and moved to North Carolina in 2005. She was the wife of the late William A. LaFerrera and is survived by her son, William LaFerrera (Robin), her daughters, Janice Ceresnak (Janice), and Virginia Schroeder (Lee); four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services Were Held For Pearl Jacobs

Pearl Jacobs (neé Yampolsky) of Brooklyn, Livingston and Philadelphia died at home on January 18. Predeceased by her husband, William, she is survived by her son, Neal (Jennifer) Jacobs and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 21 at Joseph Levine & Sons in Trevose, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Funeral Services Held for Pearl Lewis

Pearl W. Lewis of Boynton Beach, Florida died on January 19. A funeral service was held on January 23 at the Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Lewis grew up in Newark and graduated from Weequahic High School in 1942, and in 1946 from the University of Vermont. She lived in Livingston for many years before moving to Boynton Beach in 1989. Pearl was the daughter of Max and Celia Weissbard and the wife of the late Morton Lewis. She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey (Barbara Joan) of Oakland, California and Michael Lewis of West Orange; three grandchildren; a sister, Elaine Fein of Aurora, Colorado; and a brother, the Honorable Harvey Weissbard (Joyce) of Fairfield. Barbara Makac, of Manchester, formerly of Livingston, died on Thursday, January 18. She was 67 years old. She is survived by her children, Thomas and Margaret; her sister, Kyrstyna, and her granddaughter. Arrangements were by the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home.

Robert A. Gerber

Robert A. Gerber passed away surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Morristown Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was 92. Born in Reinach, Switzerland, Robert immigrated to the U.S. in 1948 and thereafter became the embodiment of the American dream. He worked hard and saved enough money to attend The Dry Cleaning Institute, which led to his opening of the current family business, North Hills Cleaners, in Livingston. To say that he was proud to become an American citizen would be an understatement. Because of his hard work, self-reliance, and determination, he loved that America provided him the opportunity to become a success story. Robert will be fondly remembered by neighboring communities for his beautiful lighted Christmas tree display, which symbolized and commemorated his many years of living in America. Robert had a larger-than-life personality.

Committal Service Held For Rose Tedesco, 87

Rose Tedesco of Livingston died Saturday, January 13, at the age of 87. The committal service was held Wednesday, January 17, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, followed by the entombment. Mrs. Tedesco was born in Orange. She was the first female vice commander of the Garden State Chapter No. 1, American Ex-Prisoners of War. She served as the president of the Clara Maass Guild for four years. Mrs. Tedesco was predeceased by her husband, Charles, and her siblings, Nicholas, Carl, Samuel, Margaret, Josephine and Eleanor. She is survived by her children, Charles Tedesco, Stephen Tedesco, Dianne Tedesco, and Sharon Wiehler and her husband, Eric; her brother, Anthony; her sister, Mary; and two grandchildren.
